EN: This production reimagines Macbeth by William Shakespeare from the perspective of the witches, using the vanity of social media as a metaphor for their prophecies. It explores how young people can lose themselves in the digital world, blending Shakespeare’s tragedy with contemporary issues. Performed by Eastern actors, the piece brings together Eastern and Western cultures to create a cross-cultural theatrical experience. Through minimalist staging and largely non-verbal storytelling, the play is condensed into a 40- minute performance in which young actors develop innovative symbols through costumes, lighting and movement.
This adaptation invites reflection on society while highlighting youth creativity and cultural exchange on the global stage.
NL: Deze voorstelling herinterpreteert Macbeth van William Shakespeare vanuit het perspectief van de heksen, waarbij de ijdelheid van sociale media dient als metafoor voor hun voorspellingen. Het stuk onderzoekt hoe jongeren zichzelf kunnen verliezen in de digitale wereld en verbindt Shakespeare’s tragedie met hedendaagse thema’s. Uitgevoerd door oosterse acteurs, brengt de voorstelling oosterse en westerse culturen samen en ontstaat een interculturele theaterervaring. Met een minimalistische en grotendeels non-verbale vorm wordt het verhaal teruggebracht tot een voorstelling van veertig minuten, waarin jonge acteurs innovatieve symbolen creëren via kostuums, licht en beweging.
Deze bewerking nodigt uit tot reflectie over de samenleving en toont de creativiteit van jongeren en culturele uitwisseling op een internationaal podium.
